
Six Incoming CofC Men?s Soccer Players lead Mutiny to National Championship

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Six College of Charleston men's soccer signees led the Discoveries Soccer Club 90 Green Mutiny 18-U team from Rock Hill, S.C. to the USYDA U18 National Championship on Sunday in Lancaster, Mass.
The six incoming Cougars were Frannie Twohig, Geordi Khoury, Ralph Lundy,III, Robbie Benson, Shawn Ferguson, and Tyler Vukoder.
"This is a great milestone for South Carolina youth soccer,” said CofC head coach Ralph Lundy. “We couldn't be happier to have these 6 players coming to be Cougars."
The Mutiny earned their first win of the day taking a 3-2 decision over Region IV Champion WSM International (Ore.). Ferguson tallied a goal and recorded two assists in the victory.
The team then had a dominating 8-1 win over Region I champ East Fishkill Thunder (N.Y.) in their second match. Lundy, III was impressive in the win, scoring four goals, while being tabbed “Star of the Day” by ESPN Rise Magazine.
In the squad's final match of preliminary play, Discoveries knocked off Region II victor Javanon (Kent.) 4-2. Benson scored a goal in the win. In the championship match, the Mutiny defeated Javanon again, 2-1, as Benson recorded two assists in the Championship clinching victory.
“The experience with this team and these players was truly amazing,” said Lundy, III. “This is something that this group of guys, especially the ones that are coming to Charleston to play together, will never forget."
The College of Charleston men's soccer team will open their 2009 season on September 1st when they host Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m.
