Four incoming members of the College of Charleston's men's soccer program have been named to the ESPNRise.com Magazine 2009 High School All-American Team, which was announced on Wednesday.
The four Cougars selected to the squad were Robbie Benson and Shawn Ferguson, who were first team selections, along with Ralph Lundy, III and Michael Coleman, who were second team selections
“This is a prestigious honor for each of these players.” said Charleston head coach Ralph Lundy. “For the Cougars to have 4 All-Americans coming into our program speaks volumes about this recruiting class. We look forward to getting our season started in a couple of weeks and want 2009 to be special."
Benson and Ferguson both prepped at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C. and led their squad to a perfect 24-0 record this past season on their way to a state championship. Lundy, III attended Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., while Coleman prepped at Parkview in Lilburn, Ga, where both players were starters on their squads for four seasons.
Also, the trio of Benson, Ferguson and Lundy, III was a part of the Discoveries Soccer Club team that captured a USYSA U18 National Championship this past weekend.
The College of Charleston men's soccer team will kick off their 2009 season when they host Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
