CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston volleyball program has announced the signing of setter Liza Price (Fort Mill, S.C.) for the 2009 season. She completes the Cougars signing class for the upcoming season.
A four-year member of the powerhouse Charlotte Latin program based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Price brings a tremendous championship pedigree to the College of Charleston as she begins her college career.
A setter for the Hawks, Price was an integral part of leading the program to a stellar 100-3 record and four consecutive North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISSA) state championships in her four years.
As impressive as the accomplishments of her team are over the last four years, Price's individual honors are even more impressive. The 5-9 native of Fort Mill, S.C. was a three-time All-State selection (2006-08), four-time First-Team All-Conference choice and was named the 2008 Player of the Year by the Charlotte Observer. That same organization named her a First-Team selection three times (2006-08) and a Second-Team selection once (2005).
In addition to those accolades, Price was named a First-Team choice all four years by the Charlotte Weekly, earned Carolina All-Region First-Team honors as a freshman and sophomore and was ranked in the Top-59 Freshman and Top-79 Sophomore rankings by PrepVolleyball.com.
As a senior, she was named AVCA/MaxPreps Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 13 and served as her team's captain. Following that season she also competed in the annual NCISAA Shine Volleyball Match that features players from North and South Carolina. In addition to her high school accomplishments, Price has been a member of the Carolina Juniors club team which has qualified for the Junior Olympic National Tournament for the past five years.
The source of Price's athletic ability and dedication is obvious as her family has an accomplished athletic background. Her father, Scott, played football under Paul "Bear" Bryant at Alabama from 1974-77, helping the Crimson Tide earn three Southeastern Conference titles and post a 42-6 record, while her grandfather played football at Southwestern University. Two uncles played baseball at Middle Tennessee State between 1964-73 and an aunt, Lori Dorn, played volleyball at the University of Dayton.
The daughter of Mary and Scott Price, Liza is expected to continue her outstanding play at the college level and be an integral part of the continued success at the College of Charleston.
