
Women's Soccer Edged by Elon in Overtime

ELON, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell, 4-3, to Elon in Friday night's women soccer action at Rudd Field. The Cougars had three different leads but Elon responded each time before netting the game winner in overtime.
The Cougars fall to 6-7 (3-2 SoCon) with the loss. Elon improves to 8-4-1 (3-2 SoCon).
Hope Atkinson (Rumson, N.J.) scored twice and Sarah Schaidle (Simpsonville, S.C.) netted her team-high sixth goal of the season.
The Phoenix controlled a 13-10 shot advantage and prevented the Cougars from registering a shot in the overtime period.
CofC struck first in the 28th minute when Morgan Benz (Clifton, Va.) dribbled through the defense and found Atkinson open on the right side for the goal.
Elon equalized in the 37th minute on a penalty-kick opportunity from Alanna Winsper and the teams went into the locker rooms tied, 1-1, at the break.
Schaidle put the Cougars up again in the 55th minute with an assist from Megan Hilbert (Apex, N.C.).
The Phoenix had the answer again when Scarlett Fakhar headed in a corner kick from Winsper three minutes later.
Atkinson capitalized on a defensive miscue and put the Cougars up once more in the 64th minute by a 3-2 tally.
The Phoenix again managed to equalize, however, with just 2:34 remaining in regulation when Simi Dhaliwal headed one in with assists from Winsper and Claire O'Keeffe.
The Cougars were unable to register a shot in the extra period and eventually fell when Brittany Hallberg and Chelsey Stark executed a give-and-go which positioned Hallberg to seal the game winner.
