College of Charleston grinds out 7-0 win over Charlotte in men?s tennis

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston (9-3, 3-0) rebounded strongly after their six-match win streak was snapped by No. 14 Mississippi a day earlier as they swept Charlotte (4-11, 3-2 C-USA) 7-0 in a non-conference men's tennis match at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

"It was a good battle" said head coach Jay Bruner. "We played from behind in doubles until the end but kept fighting and competed well".

The Cougars had to play well as Charlotte did not surrender any easy victories despite the 7-0 score. CofC swept the doubles point but junior Lukas Koncilia and sophomore Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) had to fight their way to a 10-8 victory at the No. 1 spot to clinch it while senior Steven Myers (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Billy Kenny (Pawley's Island, S.C.) posted a 9-7 decision. Junior Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France) and sophomore Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In singles competition, sophomore John Harden (Atlanta, Ga.) notched a hard fought 7-5, 7-5 decision at the No. 6 position while Boyer had the easiest victory at No. 4 by a 6-0, 6-4 score. Delme posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 and was followed by Trintignac with a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 2.

Senior Joe Nicolazzi (St. Louis, Mo.) took No. 5 singles 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 while Koncilia clinched the match with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) decision.

The College of Charleston has now won seven of its last eight matches heading into Monday's key Southern Conference match against Elon. That battle will take place at 2 p.m. on March 22 at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
