MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston (5-2, 2-0) earned a 5-2 victory over Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College (4-7, 0-4 ACC) in a non-conference men's tennis match at Patriots Point on Friday, March 5.
The Cougars got on the board first as they captured the doubles point with a pair of victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The pairing of junior Lukas Koncilla (Tyrol, Austria) and sophomore Thomas Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) dropped an 8-4 decision at the No. 1 spot before senior Steven Myers (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Billy Kenny (Pawley's Island, S.C.) earned the first victory by an 8-4 score. Sophomore Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) and junior Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France) claimed the point with an 8-2 victory.
In singles, sophomore Chris Toussaint's (Charlotte, N.C.) 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 position put CofC ahead 2-1 before the Eagles tied the match at 2-2 with a victory at No. 4. Senior Joe Nicolazzi (St. Louis, Mo.) won his match at No. 5 by a 6-3, 7-5 score to put the College of Charleston back ahead at 3-2 before Trintignac's victory at No. 2 (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) over the 76th ranked player in the nation clinched the match for the Cougars. Delme then earned a 6-4, 7-6 (5) decision at the No. 3 spot to round out the competition.
The Cougars are back in action on Monday, March 8 as they take on East Carolina at Patriots Point. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
