CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston senior Zach Prince (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) has signed on to play professional soccer with the Charleston Battery for the 2010 season.
The midfielder finished his collegiate career in 2009 with 17 goals and 14 assists for 48 points. He netted a career-high five goals this past season to help the Cougars to a No. 2 seed in the Southern Conference Championships. He was recognized with second-team all-conference honors.
"Prince beat out a few players to earn a roster spot," Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser said. "We look forward to him making contributions all over the field as he has shown lots versatility in pre-season."
Prince is joined on the team by CofC assistant coach Keith Wiggans who returns to Blackbaud Stadium for a fifth season with the Battery at goalkeeper.
The team, which plays as part of the United Soccer League Division 2 opened its season on Apr. 17 at the Charlotte Eagles. The Battery plays its first home game on Apr. 24 at 7:30 p.m. against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
The 23 year-old is pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
