All three athletes currently hold school records in their respective events. Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Jelain McArthur (Laurens, S.C./Laurens District) starts the event for the Cougars with the 100-meter hurdles trials at 6:30 p.m.
McArthur will also compete in the triple jump on Saturday. She set a new school record in the event with a jump of 40'¾" at Clemson's Orange and Purple Meet on May 9, surpassing her old record by more than six inches.
Sophomore Kristen Wolfe (Midlothian, Va./James River) will run the steeplechase for the first time since the Southern Conference Championships where she placed third with a time of 11:21.28. She set the school record at Duke in 2009 with a time of 11:02.00.
Sophomore Emily Smith (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern) will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships for a second straight year after finishing second in the high jump at the SoCon Championships. She is coming off a strong performance at the Orange and Purple Meet, where her height of 5'8½" earned her runner-up status and tied her performance at the NCAA Regionals last year.
The Cougars need to finish in the top 48 on the East Coast in their respective events to earn a trip to the First Round of the NCAA Championships.
