The Cougars are among a 12-team tournament field which includes Southern Conference rivals Davidson and Western Carolina as well as No. 42 North Carolina State, Vanderbilt, Coastal Carolina, Notre Dame, Saint Mary's (Calif.), Texas State, UAB, Maryland and Mercer.
The Ocean Course was ranked No. 25 in Golf Digest's 100 Greatest U.S. Golf Courses List and No. 4 on its Best Public Course List. With beautiful Atlantic coastline views from each hole, the course has played host to the 2007 Senior PGA and will host the 2012 PGA Championships.
"We are very excited to start the year, especially hosting this tournament at Kiawah and not having to open the season on the road," said CofC head coach Mark McEntire. "We have a great tournament field and are looking forward to having some fun and play good golf this week."
Sophomore John Duke Hudson (Sonora, Texas), who is coming off of his first-ever qualifying appearance at the U.S. Amateur in August, will compete in this week's Cougar lineup in addition to senior Ross Tooley (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), senior Coy Breen (San Antonio, Texas), senior Austin Parks (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), freshman Parker Allen (Blythewood, S.C.) and freshman Alex Ellis (Austin, Texas).
"We have a nice mix of players with three seniors and two freshmen in our tournament lineup," McEntire said. "We have worked really hard this summer and it should be a good event."
Both tournament days will begin with shot-gun starts at 8:30 a.m. (ET) with 36 holes played on Monday, Sept. 13, and 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Live six-hole scoring will be available on www.Golfstat.com.
