Cougars Victorious at CofC Halloween Challenge

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team won in four singles flights and three of four doubles flights on the first day of the Frightful Halloween Tennis Challenge at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant.
The Cougar tandem of Irene Viana (Paris, France) and Jamie Harrell (Charleston, S.C.) won in flight one of doubles today, defeating Jaime and Kedzo of East Tennessee State University, 98-5. Jenny Falcone (Davidson, N.C) and Kelly Kambourelis (Melbourne, Fla.) took the second flight, topping Wieliezko and Brumit of East Tennessee State University, 9-7. Senior Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C.), teamed with freshman Grace Baker (Charlotte, N.C.), took the third flight, defeated Fox and Testerman of Winthrop, 8-4. Junior Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) and freshman Samantha Maddox (Lexington, Ky.) also won in the today's third doubles flight, winning over Andreazza and Narrostska of ETSU, 8-4.
Newcomers Falcone and Maddox both won their individual flights. Falcone defeated Winthrop's Gunaysu 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in singles flight four, while Maddox defeated Amarani of Winthrop, 6-2, 6-2, winning the fifth flight in singles.
Junior Harrell topped Kentucky's Venter in a close three-setter, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the singles seventh flight, while Baker took Pickett of Kentucky, 6-3, 6-2, in the eighth flight of singles.
The Cougars will return tomorrow to face Winthrop in doubles at 10:00 a.m. (ET) and Kentucky in singles at 1:15 p.m. (ET). Play will continue through Sunday, Oct. 30.
