CHARLESTON, S.C. - Despite leading by five halfway through the first half, the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell to Elon 51-61 Saturday at Carolina First Arena.
Next up for the Cougars (10-19, 7-13) they will meet Davidson on Thursday Feb. 3 at approximately 3:30p.m., in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Prior to the contest against the Elon Phoenix (18-11, 12-8), the Cougars honored their two seniors, Brianna Davie (Goose Creek, S.C.) and Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.)
Gerty scored seven points for the Cougars. Davie started the game and collected two rebounds.
Sophomore Latisha Harris (Aynor, S.C.) came off the bench to lead the Cougars with 13 points and eight rebounds. CofC outscored Elon 33-8 in points from the reserves.
Freshman Alyssa Frye (Chester, Va.) scored 11 points as she connected on three shots from beyond the three-point arc and shot 50 percent overall for the game.
The Phoenix came out quickly, scoring the first four points of the game, but the Cougars countered, as they went on an 8-0 run to go up 8-4.
The Cougars trailed by just two at halftime 27-29, but the Phoenix steadily increased their lead, going up six points at 38-44 with 9:39 remaining.
The Cougars will rest tomorrow and then have a few days of practice before they head to Chattanooga for the Southern Conference Tournament.
