
Men's Soccer Downs Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team opened the Southern Conference season with a 5-1 win over Wofford at Snyder Field on Saturday afternoon. Three different Cougars scored their first goal of the season.
The match was the SoCon opener for both squads. The Cougars improve to 5-2-1 (1-0-0 SoCon) while the Terriers fall to 2-5-1 (0-1-0 SoCon).
The Cougars seized the lead and wouldn't let go in the 16th minute of the game. Eric Fornell (Daniel Island, S.C.) found Tony Kattreh (Neptune Beach, Fla.) who scored from the top of the box.
In the 23rd minute, Connor Coons (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored his first goal as a Cougar when he headed home a free kick sent in by Ralphie Lundy (Mt. Pleasanat, S.C.).
Alex Hutchins scored the Terriers' lone goal seconds later after he charged down the field and scored on the ensuing kickoff.
George Khoury (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) extended CofC's lead back to two goals in the first minute of the second half after receiving a ball from Francis Twohig (St. Simon's Island, Ga.) and scoring from the top-right corner of the box.
Lundy picked up his second assist of the night in the 66th minute when he fired a shot off the crossbar and Shawn Ferguson (Rock Hill, S.C.) collected the rebound and tucked it into the back of the net.
Troy Peterson (Federal Way, Wash.) scored the Cougars' final goal of the match in the 80th minute with assists from Sean de Silva (Port of Spain, Trinidad) and Joey De Mare (Chapin, S.C.).
The Cougars have a full week off before continuing conference play with a match at Georgia Southern on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
