ELON, N.C. - Sophomore Alyssa Frye led the Cougars with 12 points, but the College of Charleston women's basketball team couldn't hold on down the stretch as they fell to Elon 51-46 Sunday at Alumni Gym.
Junior Latisha Harris recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Cougars (3-14, 2-6 SoCon).
The Cougars led by as many as seven points in the first half at 22-15 at the 7:19 mark, but Elon (8-9, 4-4 SoCon) went on a 6-0 run close the gap to one.
CofC used their aggressiveness to get to the free-throw line 11 times and made eight of them, compared to Elon one-of-two from the free-throw line. Hopkins scored the last point of the first half for the Cougars on a free-throw, as they went to the locker room up 25-23.
The Cougars opened the second half with a 7-0 run, sparked by five points from Frye. Elon would come back as Ali Ford scored 12 of her game-high 15 points in the second half, including a late three-pointer to put the Phoenix up three at 45-42.
The Cougars resume play next week as they host Georgia Southern on Wednesday Jan. 18 at 7p.m. at TD Arena.
