Dorton (Muncie, Ind.) earned AVCA All-South Region honors at the beginning of the month which automatically qualified her for All-America honors.
The Cougars starting outside hitter in 2012, Dorton finished the season with 529 kills for the most in a single season at CofC since the rally scoring era began in 2001. Dorton's average of 4.20 kills per set ranks fourth all-time in the CofC record books.
Dorton was named an All-Southern Conference First Team selection and set a new CofC record for kills in an NCAA Tournament match as she blasted 27 kills in a five-set upset of No. 23 Miami in the first round of the tournament, CofC's first win over a ranked team in school history.
A transfer from Penn State University where she won a national championship in 2009, Dorton becomes the first player in College of Charleston volleyball history to be named an AVCA All-American. She earned the same honors in her standout freshman campaign with the Nittany Lions in 2009. CofC Hall of Famer Stephanie Ballard earned Academic All-America honors in 2003.
