STATESBORO, Ga. - Junior Alex Ellis finished 14th individually and the College of Charleston men's golf team finished 14th at the 2013 Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern.
The Cougars shot rounds of 297-301-301 for a total of 899 and a 35-over par team score. Alabama shot 16-under par for a 10 shot victory over runner-up and defending national champion Texas.
The Cougars finished 10 shots back of the top-10 teams in the tournament field.
Ellis, who shot 2-under 70 for his first round finished with a 2-over 74 and a 1-over 217 for the tournament.
Freshman Josh Lorenzetti was the Cougars second best finisher for the tournament as he carded a round of 74 in the final round and finished eight shots back of Ellis in a tie for 46th place overall.
"To be successful we need to have five guys playing solid for us each round and that did not happen this weekend," CofC head coach Mark McEntire said. "It puts too much pressure on the rest of the guys when someone gets off to a rough start, especially in a field of this caliber of competition. We will continue to work to get better and have another chance next week to play against some great teams."
Up next the Cougars will play in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club on March 24-26 with some of the best teams in the country.
