Cougars Win Two On First Day Of Sand Volleyball

In the 3-2 win over Stetson, the second flight group of Darcy Dorton and Andi Zbojniewicz secured a 21-14, 21-19 victory to win the dual. Fourth flight partners Sloane White and Taeler Davis won 21-13, 21-12, and Emily Shelton and Catey Warren won 21-14, 22-24, 15-8.
The Cougar exhibition squad of Kallie McKown and Kari Fidelholtz won 21-11, 21-14. Top flight duo Lizzie Theesfeld and Melissa Morello lost (15-21, 16-21), and third flight group Kelly Kolich and Emily Neideffer lost in three (15-21, 21-15, 9-15).
The Cougars took a 4-0 lead over Jacksonville with wins in the second flight (21-14, 23-21), third flight (21-16, 19-21, 15-8), fourth flight (21-12, 21-11) and fifth flight (21-11, 21-9). The top duo of Theesfeld and Morello will finish their match tomorrow morning to finalize the Cougar win over Jacksonville.
CofC's only loss came to UAB, a team that defeated the Cougars last week at Creekside. The Blazers swept the Cougars 5-0 with Kolich and Neideffer losing in three sets at flight three (21-14, 17-21, 14-16). Shelton and Warren also losing in three sets at the fifth flight (21-11, 19-21, 9-15). Both groups won the first set, but could not hold on to take their flights.
College of Charleston will face Jacksonville in another dual again tomorrow morning before traveling back to Charleston.
