3 Things You Need To Know: CAA Volleyball Championship Final
11/23/2014 7:05:00 PM | Volleyball
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Less than 24 hours removed from a thrilling five-set semifinal victory over UNCW on Saturday afternoon, College of Charleston volleyball is now set to take on second-seeded Hofstra University today at the Johnson Center (3p.m. ET) in the championship match of the 2014 CAA conference tournament.
Here are the three things you need to know ahead of today's title collision:
1) A NCAA TOURNAMENT BERTH IS ON THE LINE
For 2014 regular season CAA champions College of Charleston, the first priority today is winning a conference tournament title. With that being said, the Cougars will also be eyeing the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament bid that goes to the winner of today's match. The Cougars have qualified for the NCAA's in each of that last two seasons – including a second round showing in 2012.
2) FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE EXPECTED
All fans are being urged to arrive early to the Johnson Center this afternoon, as a capacity crowd of nearly 800 people is expected to be on hand. Yesterday, in the Cougars riveting semifinal downing of UNCW, the home crowd was sensational, helping to rally the Cougars from two sets down against a very good Seahawk team.
3) THE COUGARS ARE ROLLING, BUT HOFSTRA IS TOUGH
College of Charleston volleyball has now won 16 of their last 18 matches heading into today's title showdown. However, one of those defeats came at the hands of Hofstra, who beat the Cougars on their home floor earlier this season on Oct. 10, in a five set match that gave the Cougars only their second ever conference loss as members of The Colonial. In the replay, the Cougars returned the favor, beating the pride in Hempstead on Nov. 14, in a match that clinched the regular season title for CofC.
