MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Freshman Thai Thompson (Wilmington, N.C.) won her first collegiate singles match as the College of Charleston women's tennis team swept Savannah State, 7-0, in the nightcap of its Thursday doubleheader at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
Thompson claimed a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set victory over Bria Burrows at No. 6 singles. As a team, CofC gave up only five games throughout the singles and doubles lines.
The Cougars (12-6) are now on a six-match win streak and have not allowed a point in their last three matches in shutouts of CAA foes Hofstra and Towson and Savannah State (5-13).
“After playing Towson earlier today, we came back and played Savannah State at a high level in the nightcap,” CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. “Thai (Thompson) picked up her first collegiate singles win, ironically, for the fourth deciding point of the match. We will take the day off tomorrow to rest and play another good team in Tulane out of Conference USA on Saturday morning.”
CofC will play its 13th contest in a 14-consecutive-match homestand against the visiting Green Wave (4-13) on Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m. (ET) at the CofC Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available at: www.CofCSports.com.
