DAVIDSON, N.C. – In their final match of the regular season on Sunday, the No. 65-ranked College of Charleston men's tennis team downed former Southern Conference rival Davidson, 6-1, at the Covington Tennis Facility.
The Cougars (16-5) have now won 13 of their last 15 matches overall and currently hold the third highest ITA ranking in school history.
One of the Cougars' keys to success this season has been their consistently strong doubles play. That trend continued on Sunday, where despite an early setback on court three, CofC clawed their way back through the talented duo of Brice Allanic and Alon Faiman, as well as the defending CAA doubles team of the week of Crescente Lesser and Rodrigo Encinas, who on courts one and two, both downed their Wildcat opposition, 8-3 to clinch the point.
In singles play, the Cougars were dominant, racking up wins on courts four and six through recent CAA men's tennis player of the week, Zack Lewis, and junior Israeli, Alon Faiman, before Allanic clinched the match for the Cougars with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ethan Kallick – who was playing at court one for the first time in his career.
Next up for the Cougars is the program's inaugural trip to the CAA Championships, set to take place Friday, April 18th through Monday April 21st in Williamsburg, Va., on campus at the College of William and Mary.
The winner of the CAA Championships receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
