Men?s Soccer To Host James Madison In CAA Quarterfinal

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following the most successful season in the Colonial Athletic Association since joining the conference in 2013, the #4 College of Charleston men's soccer team will host #5 James Madison in the CAA tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Patriots Point. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
In other quarterfinal action, #3 Delaware will host #6 UNCW also at 7 p.m. for a chance to travel to Hofstra for the CAA men's soccer championship. Hofstra (11-7, 6-2 CAA), who was crowned CAA regular season champs, will host the CAA men's soccer championship next weekend. The semifinal matches are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The championship match on Sunday, Nov. 15 will be televised by the American Sports Network at 2:30 p.m.
Single game tickets for the CAA quarterfinal will be $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Students with any valid CAA Student ID will get in free.
The Cougars (7-7-2, 4-3-1 CAA) finished fourth in the CAA standings and had their best regular season since 2010, which is the last time CofC went to the NCAA tournament. Junior captain Nico Rittmeyer led the team with four goals while senior midfielder Adam Purvis leads the way with a team-high three assists. Purvis ranks 9th in the conference in assists per game, junior forward Hamilton Carlin is tied for third in game-winning goals (2), and junior midfielder Adan Noel is fourth in shots per game (2.86).
Junior goalkeeper Kevin Shields took over the starting job after the first four games of the season. Despite playing in only 13 games, Shields ended the regular season ranked 2nd in the CAA in save percentage (.803), saves per game (4.69) and saves (61).
