JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Julisa Tindall claimed an event victory in the high jump to lead the College of Charleston track and field team to another strong outdoor showing at the Spring Break Invitational, a two-day meet hosted by the Osprey of North Florida University at Hodges Stadium.
“We had a lot of great performances this weekend,” said CofC head coach Amy Seago. “We keep making forward progress and the good news is that our confidence is building and so too is our ability to work together as a team.”
Championing The College's efforts was another sensational performance from Tindall, who jumped 1.78 meters to take top honors among 28 competitors in the high jump while also setting a new outdoor school record. Tindall's event victory comes just three weeks removed from a sparkling second-place finish at the ECAC Indoor Championships, where she set a new personal best with a mark of 1.84 meters. For her performance in Jacksonville, Tindall was named Cougar field athlete of the meet.
Also showing well in the field were multi-event athletes Sarah Lynch and Bri McDonald, while Julia Petruch jumped 4.95 meters in the long jump.
On the track, the Cougars were led by quality displays from freshmen Timesha Moody and Kallie Golicher, who set new personal best marks in the 100 and 200 meters dashes (Moody) as well as the 5K (Golicher). Cara Butcher continued her remarkable improvement, shaving a full minute off her steeplechase time from just one season ago with a mark of 11:11.53 – good enough for second-place overall.
Sophomore Carlee Cassidy set new personal records in the 800 and 1500 meter runs, while freshman Deanna King set a huge personal best time of her own in the 400 meter dash, running a time of 58.73.
“Overall, it was another very solid weekend for us,” said Seago. “Now we look ahead to the Florida Relays, which will help us build our championship level experience.”
The Florida Relays – one of the nation's premier track and field events—will commence this Thursday (April 2) in Gainesville, Fla. and will televised live, courtesy of SEC Network+.
