SIESTA KEYS, Fla. – The College of Charleston sand volleyball team closed out its duels season on Friday with a successful 5-0 sweep of Eckerd College at the Fiesta on Siesta Tournament.
The Cougars – who will now turn their attention to the pairs aspect of the event – rounded out their duels season in comprehensive fashion, dropping just two sets against the Tritons en route to their second win of the year
The College, led by their top pairing of Melissa Morello and Catey Warren, jumped out to an early lead against the St. Petersburg based outfit courtesy of a 21-10, 21-16 flight one victory. After sophomore Maddie Hills and senior Liz Theesfeld grinded out a three setter on court two, it was freshmen Mackenzie Cooler and Lauren Hollman who sealed the victory with a straight set, 23-21, 21-16 court three victory.
Senior Bailey Humes and junior Grace Rebarchak grabbed a three-set win on court four, before the flight five pairing of freshman Krissy Mummey and Megan Quigley secured the 5-0 sweep and saw the Cougars close out their 2015 duels campaign on a high note.
“It was a great match for us,” said College of Charleston head coach Jason Kepner. “We had to adjust to a little crosswind, but overall I thought that all of our girls handled it very well and it was nice to end the duels season with a solid win. Now we move on and look ahead to the largest individual pairs tournament in the nation.”
