CHARLESTON, S.C. – Team award winners and 100 seniors across all 21 varsity sports and support groups were honored at the 2015 College of Charleston Athletics #CougAwards Banquet sponsored by The Cougar Club and catered by Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe on Tuesday night at TD Arena.

MVP Award recipients included Mackenzie Johnston (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) of men's cross country, Trish Rein (Philadelphia, Pa.) of women's cross country, Leland Archer (Port of Spain, Trinidad) of men's soccer, Jenny Falcone (Davidson, N.C.) of women's tennis, Will Ryan (Westlake, Ohio) of men's swimming and diving, Jayme Groth (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) of women's swimming and diving, Hope Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) of women's soccer, Charlie Ghriskey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) of men's tennis, Isabel Duane (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) of cheer, Zach Munroe (Charlotte, N.C.) of men's golf and Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) of women's golf.

The CofC sailing team won the 2015 Cougar Cup, which is presented annually to the team with the most participation points in the NCAA Student-Athlete Development commitment areas of athletic excellence, academic excellence, personal development, career development and service.

C.C. Buford (San Antonio, Texas) of women's golf and Clerc Cooper (New Orleans, La.) of sailing were both honored as co-winners of the prestigious J. Stewart Walker Cup, which the highest award given by the athletics department to a deserving student-athlete. The award is named after J. Stewart Walker, Jr., a 1978 CofC graduate, who was very active in athletics until his death in 1983.

The other finalists for the award included Hope Klicker (Walla Walla, Wash.) of softball, Pat Branin (Richmond, Va.) of men's basketball, Trish Rein (Philadelphia, Pa.) of women's cross country and track and field, Olivia Coco (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) of equestrian, Mikaela Hopkins (Augusta, Ga.) of women's basketball and Claire Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) of women's soccer.

Academically, 323 student-athletes and trainers were named scholar-athletes this school year. To qualify, a student-athlete must earn a term grade-point average of at least a 3.0 during the spring and fall 2014 terms.

The CofC women's golf team turned in the highest annual average team GPA in 2014, while the men's cross country team had the most improved annual average team GPA. Clerc Cooper, a history major and member of the CofC Honors College, earned the Academic MVP Award given to the graduating senior with the highest cumulative GPA at the end of the fall prior to graduation.

Robert Clawson III was honored with the Myrt Riggs Fan of the Year Award along with Ryan Spraker as the Student Fan of the Year and Dr. Jerry Hale, Dean of the College of Charleston School of Humanities and Social Sciences, as the Anita Van de Erve Staff/Faculty Fan of the Year. Former President of The Cougar Club, Tomi Youngblood, was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
