Fieldsend Returns from ITA Carolinas Regionals with Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Liza Fieldsend found success over the weekend while representing the College of Charleston women's tennis program, managing to win a match at the ITA Carolinas Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The senior out of New Braunfels, Texas opened competition with a head to head matchup against Anne Catherine Feaster, Davidson's top-flight singles player last season. Fieldsend dispatched her opponent easily in the opening set 6-2, and though Feaster turned it up in the second set, Fieldsend still prevailed with a 7-5 win to advance.
Next up, Fieldsend drew the second ranked player in the region, South Carolina's Ingrid Martins of Brazil. Though she offered a spirited match to force a tie break, Fieldsend succumbed 7-6 before dropping the match in the second set 6-2.
The performance was reminiscent of last season's outing in the same tournament. In 2015, Fieldsend dispatched Campbell's Maud Mrad (6-0, 6-2) before falling to USC's Paige Cline 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
The Cougars will finish off the fall season at home in early November with the Charleston Classic.
