CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The College of Charleston cross country program saw multiple runners crack the school's Top 10 list at this weekend's NCAA Southeast Regional, as the men finished 26th and the women took 23rd.
"I'm proud of these men and women," head coach Amy Seago said. "They finished the season on a great note and proved we're a stronger program than we were last year. Hats off to our seniors, Josh, Cara, Carlee and Mary Kate, for capping off a great four years with us."
The men improved four positions from last year's 30th place finish at the same course, finishing just eight points ahead of Elon with 708 points to edge their CAA rivals.
Hayden DiBona finished 121st with a time of 32:06.9 in his first 10K as a collegiate athlete, vaulting him to No. 3 on the CofC Top 10 list ahead of Adam Seften (32:16.90 in 2013). Crew Kosiorek finished right behind DiBona in 129th (32:15.6) to surpass his former teammate as well in the No. 4 spot.
Sam Beattie also joined the group in etching his name on the Top 10 list with a time of 32:38.2 to finish 148th. Jack Beattie just missed the boat with a time of 33:17.2, putting him at 11th. Josh Tierney rounded out the scoring efforts with a personal best time of 33:31.6.
On the women's side, the Cougars finished 23rd for the third-straight year at the Southeast Regional, scoring 601 points. Tori Churchill completed the season sweep, finishing first among her teammates for the seventh straight time this season with a time of 21:59.3. Carlee Cassidy was next with a time of 22:25.6 (98th) followed by Ellen Feringa in 108th with a time of 22:34.1. All three of the Cougars' top finishers dropped at least 59 seconds off of their times from last year on this same course, headlined by Feringa slashing 1:14 off her time.
Marissa Small-Towns finished fourth among the Cougars with a time of 23:25.5 to take 161st, while Emma Jennings rounded out the scoring with a time of 24:04.0 to capture 188th.
"We have a great group of youngsters who are determined and motivated to move this program forward," Seago said. "We've had a fun year and I'm thankful for this group that's come together to work hard and enjoy the process of building something special."
The women's squad now looks ahead to the indoor track & field season, which begins on January 14 in Chapel Hill at the Art and Linda Maillet Open.
