TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
The College of Charleston men's basketball team enters the 2016 ESPN Gildan Charleston Classic tournament field at 2-0 on the season with victories over two in-state rivals in The Citadel (81-68) on Nov. 11 and at Coastal Carolina (71-64) on Nov. 14. The Cougars are making their third all-time appearance in the Charleston Classic, which is hosted annually on their home court at TD Arena. They will face Boise State (1-0) in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. The winner/loser will then move on to the next matchup against either Mississippi State (1-0) or UCF (1-0) on Friday. With extra firepower in its arsenal this season, CofC is shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, the Cougars are also holding opponents to 66.0 points per game and 27.8 percent from three-point range under third-year head coach Earl Grant. Veteran guard Joe Chealey is the team's leading scorer averaging 19.0 points per game, while Jarrell Brantley (13.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg) and Cameron Johnson (6.5 ppg) were preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association First and Second Team selections.
SCOUTING BOISE STATE
Junior guard Chandler Hutchinson returns from last year's 20-12 squad that reached the Mountain West Conference Quarterfinals. He recorded a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds in the team's season-opening win against Northwest (85-46) on Nov. 12. The Broncos were picked to finish fifth in the MWC preseason coaches poll. CofC is one of two Palmetto State schools in their next four games including a homestand slated against Presbyterian on Nov. 25 after the Charleston Classic.
AGAINST THE CLASSIC FIELD
Although it will be a first-ever meeting with Boise State (and possibly UTEP) in the 107-year history of the Charleston Basketball program, the Cougars have faced other possible Charleston Classic bracket opponents in Mississippi State (1-0), Central Florida (12-4), Villanova (1-1), Wake Forest (0-2) and Western Michigan (0-3).
COUGARS IN THE CHARLESTON CLASSIC
The Cougars last participated in the Charleston Classic during the inaugural season of the tournament in 2008 and in 2012. They are 3-3 all-time in Charleston Classic games. CofC went 2-1 with a 72-66 opening-round win over SIU Edwardsville on Nov. 14, 2008 – the first game ever played in TD Arena under former head coach Bobby Cremins. CofC also defeated TCU, 86-75, in its final game of the tournament on Nov. 16, 2008, after dropping a five-point decision to Temple (70-65) on Nov. 15, 2008. During the 2012 Classic, the Cougars went 1-2 against St. John's (L, 53-64), Auburn (L, 51-55) and Boston College (W, 71-67).
DESTINATION CITY, DESTINATION CAMPUS
College of Charleston is one of only three NCAA Division I schools in the country to host an ESPN tournament on its campus next to the University of Hawai'i and Cal State Fullerton. The Cougars, however, can only participate in the Charleston Classic every four years. The city of Charleston has been consistently ranked the No. 1 destination city in the United States and world, while "The College" is also the 13th-oldest institution of higher learning in the U.S.

COUGAR SOUND BITES
"As a player, this is what you dream about. Being in college and playing in a tournament of this caliber – an ESPN tournament at home with the defending national champion (Villanova) in the tournament as well as an ACC school (Wake Forest) and SEC school (Mississippi State). All of the teams in the field are very good and every night is going to be a challenge. When there is a big challenge like this, we always say, 'the bigger the challenge, the better the opportunity, too.' We are excited to play in this tournament and it's a great opportunity for us." – College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Grant on playing in the ESPN Gildan Charleston Classic
"It hasn't stopped since we played The Citadel and turning around and playing on the road at Coastal Carolina on Monday night. It has been a quick turnaround preparing the last two days for Boise State. They will be a big challenge and that's what we are focused on." – Coach Grant on playing three games in seven days to start off the season
"The big thing that we learned from our last two games is that we can fight off a team's best shot. We were able to win our game against The Citadel. We defended them well and held them to 68 points. Winning at Coastal – that was big for us on the road. They don't lose a lot at home and had multiple players on their team with NCAA Tournament experience." – Coach Grant on what he has seen from the team in the first two games
"It shows in certain possessions that we love playing with each other so much. As talented as we are, we know that more than one person can score and we make those extra passes. It was really big and gives us confidence (heading into the Charleston Classic). Especially, after Coastal Carolina came in here and beat us last year when we were really young. It shows that we have improved and we are making strides." – CofC Sophomore Forward Jarrell Brantley on the team sharing the basketball and the road win at Coastal
