GAME PREVIEW
While College of Charleston (3-1) and Wake Forest (3-1) have not met in nearly 22 years, both teams played a preseason closed scrimmage in Head Coach Earl Grant and Danny Manning's first year at the helm of their respective basketball programs prior to the 2014-15 season at TD Arena. Both coaches owe their growth and move up the ladder in the profession to the wheat fields of Kansas where the game of basketball was born by Dr. James Naismith and Manning starred and coached at the University of Kansas under head coach Bill Self from 2004-12 and Grant coached under head coach Gregg Marshall at Wichita State from 2007-10. The Cougars and Demon Deacons will look to rekindle a regional rivalry in the third-place game of the ESPN Gildan Charleston Classic on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena. The game will be televised live nationally on ESPNU. Historically, Wake Forest (1994) is one of five teams the Cougars have played against in the program's NCAA Tournament history next to Maryland (1997), Arizona (1997), Stanford (1998) and Tulsa (1999). Joe Chealey leads the Cougars in scoring (14.5 ppg), while Jarrell Brantley is the team's leading rebounder (8.5 ppg) and turned in a near double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds in a 60-40 loss to UCF on Nov. 18.
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
Like the Cougars, Wake Forest started off its season at 3-0 with victories over Radford, Bucknell and UTEP in the first round of the Charleston Classic. The Demon Deacons notched the century mark twice against Piedmont (118 points) in exhibition play and UTEP (103 points). Last year, they averaged 74.8 points per game and return sophomore guard Bryant Crawford, who was the team's second-leading scorer (13.8 ppg).
UP NEXT
While they may not have faced each other in the ESPN Charleston Classic bracket, the Cougars will travel to No. 3-ranked Villanova for a non-bracketed game on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. (ET) at The Pavilion in Villanova, Pa. The game will be televised live nationally on FS1. It will be the fourth time in program history to face the defending national champions in non-conference play next to North Carolina (2009-10), Louisville (2013-14) and Connecticut (2014-15).
COUGARS IN THE CHARLESTON CLASSIC
The Cougars last participated in the Charleston Classic during the inaugural season of the tournament in 2008 and in 2012. They are now 4-4 all-time in Charleston Classic games. CofC went 2-1 with a 72-66 opening-round win over SIU Edwardsville on Nov. 14, 2008 – the first game ever played in TD Arena under former head coach Bobby Cremins. CofC also defeated TCU, 86-75, in its final game of the tournament on Nov. 16, 2008, after dropping a five-point decision to Temple (70-65) on Nov. 15, 2008. During the 2012 Classic, the Cougars went 1-2 against St. John's (L, 53-64), Auburn (L, 51-55) and Boston College (W, 71-67).

SERIES HISTORY
Wake Forest leads 2-0 in the all-time series with College of Charleston. Both teams first met in the 1994 NCAA Southeast Regional held at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky. It marked the Cougars' first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after only becoming a Division I program in 1991-92. They earned an at-large bid and entered the matchup with the nation's longest winning streak of 16 games. Former standout and CofC Athletics Hall of Famer Marion Busby was named Chevrolet MVP of the game for his 21-point effort in the close 68-58 loss to the Demon Deacons in the 1994 first round. The Cougars and Demon Deacons also met the following year in a road meeting (L, 64-74) in Winston-Salem, N.C.
LAST TWO GAMES IN THE SERIES
L, 64-74 (-10) on 2/17/1994 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
L, 58-68 (-10) on 3/17/1994 in Lexington, Ky.
UCF RECAP
UCF 60, College of Charleston 40
• Jarrell Brantley had a near double-double performance with a team-high tying 11 points and eight rebounds against UCF.
• Grant Riller came off the bench and recorded a team-high tying 11 points with two long-range three-pointers late in the second half.
• Nick Harris guarded UCF center Tacko Fall and limited him to just nine points and nine rebounds in the paint. Fall came into the game averaging 21.0 ppg and 14.0 ppg.
• This is the second-consecutive game in the all-time series where College of Charleston and UCF met in a tournament setting. The Cougars last faced the Knights in the first round of the inaugural Battle 4 Atlantis in 2011 in Paradise Island, Bahamas. Both schools were previously members of the Trans America Athletic Conference. UCF has won the last two meetings between both schools, but CofC still leads the all-time series, 12-5.
• The Cougars shot a season-low 26.8 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from beyond the arc.
COUGAR SOUND BITES
"They (Wake Forest) are a good team and scored 100 points against UTEP. They have size and play in the ACC. It will be a big challenge for us. They have very good big guys and some good perimeter players. We have to prepare and be ready to play them and do our best against them on Sunday." – CofC Head Coach Earl Grant on the next Charleston Classic opponent in Wake Forest
"It was humbling. You're 3-0, it's the fourth game of the year and you lose in that matter. At that same time, I don't want to take away from the effort from our guys. I'm convinced that (UCF big man Tacko Fall) accounted for 14-to-16 points of our baskets in the paint. It's the first time we lost a game, but we still have a good team, the guys are competing hard and we are defending pretty well. We will bounce back and come up with a game plan for Wake Forest." – Coach Grant on the loss to UCF
"They (UCF) are a really good team. We did what we were supposed to. We still held them to 60 points, which is still around the range of how we want to play basketball. Defensively, we did our part. We just have to keep working. It's done with and we have to move forward. We have a really good team. We trust each other still, and if anything, it (the loss) made us better." – Sophomore Forward Jarrell Brantley on the UCF loss and bouncing back against Wake Forest
