The College Halted at Home 4-0 vs. No. 68 Illinois

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team dropped to 13-9 on the season, falling 4-0 to No. 68 Illinois (6-6).
Wednesday marked the end of Mara Argyriou and Katherine Schofield's massive doubles win-streak, which was halted at 16 matches. The two faced off against the No. 46 tandem in the country, Louise Kwong and Ines Vias, and though they had a respectable showing, the Cougar duet fell 6-3, picking up just their second loss of the season.
Though Brooke McAmis and Helena Nyikos managed a second flight win over Jerricka Boone and Madie Baillon (6-3), CofC couldn't prevent Illinois from capturing the doubles point. McAmis and Nyikos are now a perfect 3-0 in doubles this year.
In singles play, the Fighting Illini got to work on the lower flights to earn the victory, winning in the fourth, fifth and sixth flights to take the deciding points. The top-flight matches were left unfinished, but looked promising for CofC. Helena Nyikos was up 6-4, 5-2 over Jerricka Boone in flight three, while Liza Fieldsend had entered a third set in the top-flight over Alexis Casati.
The Cougars will resume their lengthy home stand Thursday when they host the Marshall Thundering Herd (6-8) at 2 p.m. Admission for tennis matches is free of charge. For those unable to attend, a live stream is available at stre.am/cofctennis
