CONWAY, S.C. – No. 16 Coastal Carolina used two big innings to defeat College of Charleston, 9-5, on Wednesday at Springs Brooks Stadium. The teams split the four-game season series with the home team winning each game.
The Chanticleers (29-10) scored four runs in the first and fourth inning and hit a home run in each. Coastal Carolina has now won 16 of its last 17 games. The team is coming off a 6-3 victory over No. 13 North Carolina on Tuesday.
The College (21-15-1) got three hits each from Bradley Jones and Luke Manzo. It was the 10th career three-hit game for Jones, while Manzo's only other three-hit performance came a week ago against the Chants. The freshman shortstop batted .538 (7-for-13) in four games against the intrastate rivals this season.
College of Charleston battled back to erase a 4-0 deficit in the fourth on Jones' second hit of the day, an RBI single. Ryan Brown also drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Morgan Phillips plated one of two CofC runs in the third with an RBI ground out.
The Cougars return home following the five-game road swing to host Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison over the weekend. The College currently sits third in the league standings with a 5-4 conference record.
NOTEWORTHY
> Dupree Hart extended his reached base streak to 23 games. Hart finished the game 1-for-5, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.
> Since 2012, Coastal Carolina and CofC have split the season series each season with the exception of 2015 when The College won both midweek meetings.
> Bradley Jones has recorded multiple hits in eight of his last 10 games.
