Ober Dominant as Cougars Roll to Win

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Bailey Ober pitched a complete game and Logan McRae hit his first career home run as College of Charleston moved one step closer to locking up a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Championship with a 5-1 win over William & Mary at Patriots Point on Thursday. The Cougars have won three straight games.
Ober (6-4) tossed his second consecutive complete game becoming the first CofC pitcher to do so since Nick Chigges went the distance in back-to-back outings in 2006. With the win, the Cougars only need one Towson loss to Northeastern over the last two games or take Friday's game from William & Mary to clinch a spot in the CAA tournament.
William & Mary (24-27, 13-8 CAA) opened the scoring with a run in the second inning on back-to-back base hits. However, it would be the only run the Tribe could muster, as it was the only inning in which Ober allowed a runner to advance past first. The sophomore right-hander struck out seven and allowed just four hits.
Charleston (28-23-1, 11-11) tied the game in the fourth on a throwing error that followed a Tommy Richter single. The Cougars took the lead in the sixth on a Bradley Dixon RBI single. A wild pitch and Bradley Jones RBI single allowed CofC to extend its lead to 4-1 in the sixth. Logan McRae capped the scoring when he launched his first career home run – a solo shot – in the eighth.
College of Charleston and William & Mary play game two of the three-game series on Friday. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
