MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Despite a big goal from Ali Freitas to help stem the tide heading into half, the College of Charleston women's soccer team couldn't withstand the Texas (1-1) attack, as the Cougars fell 3-1.

• The Cougars dropped two quick goals midway through the first half to go down in a hole early. Olivia Brook and Jasmine Hart were the goal-scorers, doing so less than four minutes apart.

• Ali Freitas came in as a reserve to get one back for the Cougars just seven minutes later to make the score 2-1. Freitas intercepted a UT header from 20 yards out, blasting the loose ball to the side of the net. The unassisted tally makes her the first goal-scorer for the Cougars in 2016.

• After going into the locker room down 2-1, UT would pick up another by way of Alexa Adams in the 58th minute as an insurance goal to seal the game.

• Lauren Killian, Hannah Huizenga and Maddy Brill-Edwards all logged 90 minutes played. Laura Ortega was dealing on the offensive end with a team-high four shots, though none found their target.

"The game tonight was unbelievable,” head coach Christian Michner said. “Two very good teams playing in a wonderful atmosphere is exactly what I want my players exposed to.”

“I thought we were fantastic for 75 of the 90 minutes,” Michner said. “The first 15 minutes we were a little under the gun, but then settled into our rhythm and created some great scoring opportunities.”

The Cougars will remain in Austin, and on Sunday will square off in a neutral site affair with Sam Houston State (0-3). Like the Cougars, the Bearkats will be hungry for a win on Sunday after falling 2-1 to Detroit in the early game.

I'm very happy about where my team is at and how they performed under pressure,” Michner said. “We will rebound quickly and get ready for another tough game Sunday."
