CofC Tennis Set to Host Annual Alumni Weekend

CHARLESTON S.C. – The Lowcountry will welcome back dozens of familiar faces at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point over the next couple of days, as the College of Charleston tennis program will host its annual Alumni Weekend on Friday and Saturday.
"It's so much fun to have the alumni come back and share the memories of their playing days," Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "It reminds me of the old saying 'The older I get, the better I was,' and this is a chance for them to come out here and prove it."
Things will kick off Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., as the women's squad (0-1) will host its home-opener against USC Upstate (0-1). Both teams will look to avenge losses, with CofC coming off a 7-0 defeat at the hands of (RV) Wake Forest, and the Spartans coming to Charleston after suffering a 4-3 loss to Wofford. The two teams have only met once in CofC's Division I Era, last season, when the Cougars prevailed 7-0. During the match, refreshments will be made available for alumni and other guests in attendance.
Festivities continue into Saturday at 10:45 a.m., when coffee will be served, followed by a group photo at 11:10 a.m. Open play will get underway from 11:15 a.m., and will run through the day's conclusion at 2:30 p.m. Coach Anastopoulo will serve his famous homemade chili and hot dogs at 12:30 p.m.
"We're expecting a great crowd of close to 100 alumni coming back, coming from as far away as California and all around the country," Anastopoulo said. "These players develop such special friendships and bonds during their time with the program, and we love our current players to see that and get an idea of what they have to look forward to."
