CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team got off to a hot start and never took their foot off the accelerator Sunday, doubling-up UNCW 76-37 to record their second consecutive win.
• The Cougars outscored UNCW in every quarter of the game, most notably in the second quarter (23-11) and the fourth quarter (20-6). With the exception of rebounds, the Cougars were the superiors in nearly every other meaningful category, including turnovers (20-6), assists (19-7), steals (14-2) and field goal percentage (46.2% vs. 21.0%).
•
Breanna Bolden recorded her second straight double-double, sinking 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting while adding 12 boards, three steals and three assists.
Tanisha Brown also got to double-double territory with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of blocks. It was Bolden's fourth and Brown's sixth of the season, and it was the first time two Cougars recorded double-doubles in the same game.
• The 39-point win matched the Cougars' seventh-highest margin of victory in the Division I Era, and UNCW's 37 points matched CofC's sixth-fewest points allowed to an opponent.
•
Shiclasia Brown and
Nola Henry combined for a solid night at the point guard position, accounting for 11 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals between the two of them. Freshman
Deja Ford managed a career-best three steals in only 12 minutes, while
Dajah Logan made her impact felt in many phases of the game, scoring nine points to go with two board, two steals and two blocks.
• UNCW's Jordan Henry recorded a 10-10 double-double in defeat, and was the only Seahawk to record double-digit scoring. Rebekah Banks pulled down 11 rebounds in a team-high 31 minutes of action.
"We shot the ball very well, and we turned a lot of our defensive stops into points, which triggered our offense," head coach
Candice M. Jackson said. "We're starting to figure out what it takes to be the best us, no matter who the opponent is. Everybody played their part tonight."
Through three games, the Cougars are locked in a four-way tie for second place in the conference. They'll have a chance at revenge at home next Friday against the team with the best CAA record in the league, as they'll face off with Elon (11-4, 3-0) at 6:30 p.m. in TD Arena.
