GREENVILLE, N.C. - The College of Charleston cross country program had a strong showing at the ECU Pirate Invitational, with the women winning the 6K race and the men claiming 5th in the 8K.
The women scored 34 points to defeat eight other teams on the strength of three Top 10 finishes, while the men scored 167 points, edging out the likes of USC Upstate, Winthrop, UNCG and The Citadel.
Tess Masselink finished third overall in the first 6K of her collegiate career, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:43.95 to submit the fourth-fastest 6K time in school history. Ellen Feringa was the next Cougar across the finish line in seventh, narrowly missing her personal best with a time of 22:08.91. Cate Ambrose's ninth place time of 22:21.39 cracked the Top 25 as well, while Marissa Small-Towns (22:42.76; 16th) and Tori Churchill (22:45.67; 17th) rounded out the scoring for the women.
On the men's side, Hayden DiBona was a scant two seconds shy of breaking Mackenzie Johnston's CofC 8K record as the sophomore finished in 12th with a time of 24:53.78. Crew Kosiorek was next across with a 46th place time of 26:23.35. Declan Hines (26:49.15; 54th), Jack Beattie (26:56.88; 57th) and Grant Gauthier (26:58.70) finished off the Top 5 for the Cougars.
CofC now sets its sights on the postseason, and will head to Elon University for the CAA Championships in two weeks.
