CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Junior
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) put down 14 kills and hit a blistering .440, and
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) recorded a double-double to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a straight-set sweep of Hofstra on Friday evening in TD Arena, as the Cougars moved into a tie for first in Colonial Athletic Association standings.
College of Charleston (19-4, 8-1 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 30-28, and totaled 36 kills, 44 digs and 10 blocks. The Cougars held Hofstra (13-10, 5-4 CAA) to 30 kills, 38 digs, six blocks, and a .112 hitting percentage.
Madison paced the Cougars with 14 kills, three blocks, and a .440 hitting percentage, while
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) added nine kills and nine digs. Beckman recorded match-highs of 29 assists and 13 digs to account for a double-double, as
Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) and
Meghan Murphy (Orange, Calif.) tallied five and four blocks, respectively.
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) posted nine digs to move within six of a tie for 10
th on the program's all-time list alongside former teammate Melissa Morello.
Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) recorded a match-high four service aces.
Laura Masciullo led the way for Hofstra with 10 kills and six digs, as Sanna Maring added six kills on nine swings. Luisa Sydlik dished out 20 assists, while Michela Rucli accounted for six blocks.
The Cougars return to the court on Saturday when Northeastern (15-7, 8-1 CAA) comes to TD Arena with first-place in the CAA on the line. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm.
