Rachel, Beckman, Feddersen Lift Cougars Into CAA Championship Match

HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) put down a match- and career-high 24 kills, Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) contributed a double-double with 55 assists and 16 digs, and Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) added 12 kills and seven blocks to send the top-seeded and No. 21 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll) College of Charleston volleyball team into the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Match with a nail-biting five-set win over fifth-seeded Hofstra in the semifinal round on Friday evening.
 
College of Charleston (27-4) won the match by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, and 15-6 to advance to the championship match for the first time since 2014, and extend its winning streak to 15 matches. The Cougars totaled 65 kills, 78 digs, and 12 blocks to go along with a .209 hitting percentage; Hofstra (18-14) finished with 65 kills, 65 digs, 15 blocks, and an even .200 attacking clip.
 
Rachel paced the Cougars with her eighth double-double of the season with 15 digs and a career-high 24 kills to go along with three blocks. Beckman added a double-double of her own – her 14th of the year – with 55 assists and 16 digs, and moved into fifth on the program's all-time assists list during the match.
 
Feddersen posted most of her best matches of the season with 12 kills, seven blocks, and a .611 hitting percentage, as Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) chipped in 11 kills and three blocks. Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) finished with nine kills and six blocks, while McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) totaled 20 and 11 digs, respectively.
 
Laura Masciullo led the way for Hofstra with 21 kills, while Ivania Ortiz added a double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs. Michela Rucli contributed 13 kills and five blocks, as Sanne Maring tallied eight kills and a match-high nine blocks. Luisa Sydlik dished out 55 assists, and Caylie Denham and Nanishka Perez chipped in 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
The top-seeded Cougars advance to the CAA Championship Match tomorrow afternoon, where they will face No. 3 seed and host James Madison with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The match is slated to begin at 4:05 pm, and will be streamed live via College Sports Live.
