Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars Surge Late to Take Down Terriers 59-51

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (4-6) were evenly matched with the Wofford Terriers (5-6) all night in TD Arena, but strong play down the stretch pushed the Cougars to the 59-51 win.

• Each of the first three quarters ended with the game separated by two points. CofC trailed by two after the first, took the lead going into the locker room at half, and relinquished it again after the third. It wasn't until the fourth that the Cougars pulled away, outscoring the Terriers 16-6 in the period and 12-2 in the final seven minutes of play.

Brianna Boyd kicked off the final run of the game, and wound up with five points in the final seven minutes. Darien Huff hit a three, while Tanisha Brown hit a layup in transition and later buried two free throws in the waning seconds.

Tanisha Brown led the Cougars in scoring, pouring in 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting while adding seven rebounds. Baileigh Larson had eight points and a career-high three blocks, while Shiclasia Brown had a well-rounded statline with six points, six rebounds and eight assists.

• The Cougars were efficient from long range (36.4%), which was in stark contrast to the 3 of 20 shot by the Terriers. Coupled with the superior field goal shooting (39.0% vs. 30.2%), that was the CofC's key to victory.

• Marissa Bayer posted a 17-11 double-double in defeat for the Terriers, shooting 7 of 14 from the field.

The Cougars will return to action on Thursday at noon, when they host Wake Forest.
