WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – College of Charleston's second-half comeback fell short as William & Mary remained undefeated on its home court with an 89-79 victory on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
Â
The Tribe (14-11, 8-6 CAA) have now won five of their last seven in Colonial Athletic Association play with 12-0 mark at home. Both teams had four players in double figures and shot better than 50 percent from the floor.
Â
Omar Prewitt led W&M with a career-and game-high 30 points, while
Grant Riller led Charleston with 26 points. The Cougars (19-8, 10-4 CAA) shot a season-best 58.5 percent from the floor (31-53), but were outscored by the Tribe, 52-37, in the first half – a deficit they could not overcome in the end.

Joe Chealey had 15 and
Nick Harris 10.

POSTGAME QUOTES
College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Grant
On the loss …
"This game was a lot different than the last one. They (William & Mary) scored too many points in the first half. In the second half, we played at our pace. They scored 37 and we scored 42. That was more normal. Obviously, William & Mary is a good offensive team. It's not a surprise. They have been averaging close to 100 (points) the last four games besides the road games. We knew it would be a challenge on the road against them. They made 11 threes and some of them were contested. We have to correct the 50-50 loose balls, transition baskets after a miss and a couple of offensive rebounds here and there. We allowed them to get going in the first half. For the most part, we played against a team that can shoot them (three-pointers) and shoot them well."
Â
On the tale of two halves …
"At the end of the day, we knew it would be a tough game. But, I thought we could win it. You can't dig a big hole against a team like them. It was hard for us to recover. We won the second half. It was a tale of two halves again. We didn't play as well in the first half, but we played well in the second. The encouraging thing is that we got close to 80 points and we shot a high percentage. This game won't define us. Some of the lapse of getting stops was because our guys were out there playing a lot of minutes. We have to get the bench more involved. I need to trust the bench more. We have four games left. We will get back to Charleston and try to get better in practice. Our offensive is getting better than what it has been, now, we just need to put the nails back in our defense."
