Three Matches in Sunshine State in Store for Men’s Tennis

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (2-0) is set to play three matches over a 27-hour span this weekend, when they will head to the Sunshine State to take on Bethune-Cookman (0-4), Florida A&M (2-6) and Florida State (6-2).

The Cougars will play the Wildcats on Friday at 2 p.m., and then head to Tallahassee for a pair of Saturday matches against the Rattlers at 11 a.m. and the Seminoles at 3 p.m.

CofC comes off a pair of 6-1 wins against NC Central and NC A&T last weekend. The College swept all six of the doubles matches over the weekend, and was perfect in the top two and bottom two singles flights. Benedikt Henning and Easton Thomas earned conference-wide distinction, winning CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors for their wins in first and second flight doubles play.

Bethune-Cookman has struggled out the gate at 0-4, and haven't won a single individual match to date after getting swept by UCF, FGCU, Barry and Florida Atlantic. They were a 12-13 team last season, earning a 4-0 win over Howard in the MEAC Tournament before falling to SC State the following day.

Florida A&M is 2-6 on the season, with their wins coming against Alcorn State and Jacksonville State. The Rattlers went 9-12 last season culminating in a deep run in the MEAC Tournament. Like Bethune-Cookman, they too fell to SC State.

The Seminoles are 6-2 on the year, with their only two losses of the year coming to Georgia State and Mississippi State. Florida State was previously receiving votes in the national poll, and has a pair of nationally ranked singles players in No. 89 Guy Iradukunda and No. 90 Aziz Dougaz. The team went 18-9 last season, and fell in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to Baylor.

The Cougars played the Wildcats and Rattlers last season, winning both matches 4-3 and 5-2 respectively. It hasn't been since two years ago that the College faced off with Florida State. That match resulted in a 5-1 win for the Seminoles.
