CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team (10-5) will dust off an old SoCON rivalry this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they face off with the Davidson Wildcats (13-4) at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
Â
The Cougars ride a two-match winning streak into the weekend, having earned a pair of wins against The Citadel and DePaul.
Vasily Kichigin is coming fresh off his heroics against the Blue Demons, a match where the junior scored the deciding fourth point in a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win on court four.
Benedikt Henning meanwhile is 10-2 on the season in second flight singles action, and hasn't suffered a defeat in over a month.
Â
CofC and Davidson are very familiar with one another after cohabitating the SoCON for 15 seasons between 1999 and 2013. Last season, CofC traveled to Davidson and earned a 4-3 victory against the Wildcats, picking up the contested 2-1 doubles point before winning on courts 1, 4 and 5.
Â
At 13-4 on the season, the Wildcats are enjoying their winningest season since they went 14-8 in 2008. Davidson is red-hot, having won their last four consecutive matches against Bethune-Cookman, Saint Joseph's, USC Upstate and George Mason. They've been more vulnerable away from home however, sporting a 4-3 road-record for the year. They're led by David Hager's 13-3 clip in second flight singles as well as Axel Fries' 14-2 record in the middle flights.
