MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (11-5) picked up their third consecutive win Saturday afternoon, rallying back from 2-0 down to defeat the Davidson Wildcats (13-5) 5-2.
The Cougars fell into an early hole when they dropped doubles matches in flights two and three. Davidson pushed the advantage in singles when they achieved the 6-1, 6-2 win on court five.
The College dug its heels in and battled back, with
Rodrigo Encinas striking first on court four with the 6-4, 6-2 win over Artem Khrapko.
Juan Estevarena was the next Cougar finished, winning 6-4, 6-3 in flight one to knot the match up at 2-2.
Vasily Kichigin won his opening set handily, but trailed for nearly the entire second set before forcing a tiebreak. The Russian junior went down 4-0, but fought back to tie it 4-4 before eventually winning the set and the match with the 6-2, 7-6(7) victory.
Freshman
Alec Angradi stepped up to be the hero with a three-set win over Thomas Mason to clinch the match. Angradi won the opening set 6-2, fell 1-6 in the following set, trailed by as many as 4-1 in the third set before turning things upside down to prevail 6-4.
Benedikt Henning was the final Cougar finished, snatching his seventh consecutive win with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over David Hager.
The Cougars will have the next week off before playing their final home match of the season when they host the East Carolina Pirates next Saturday.
