East Carolina (9-3) plated 12 runs on 15 hits – including six extra-base knocks – while holding College of Charleston (7-5) to seven tallies on nine base knocks. Roper led the Cougars with a 3-for-5 effort, while Dixon, Ricther, and Logan McRae (Florence, S.C.) each collected two hits. Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.) drew three walks and scored two runs, as Dixon and Ricther each picked up two RBIs.
Tucker White (Sterling, Okla.) tossed four innings and allowed six runs while striking out five. Christian Shiver (Monroe, Ga.) and Austin George (Mooresville, N.C.) each tossed a scoreless inning, while Justin Baker (Huntersville, N.C.), Will Detwiler (Camden, S.C.), and Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) combined for the final three frames.
Travis Watkins, Eric Tyler, and T.J. Riles led the way for East Carolina with three hits and two RBIs each, while Spencer Brickhouse drove in three runs with a 2-for-4 effort. Chris Holba got the start and allowed four runs on four hits in two innings of work. Hunter Hood tossed two and one-third frames in relief, while Sam Lanier allowed one run in one and two-thirds innings to earn the win. Ryan Ross and Tyler Smith combined to pitch the final three innings.
The College jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with one run in the first and three in the second, highlighted by RBI doubles from Dixon and Richter in the second frame. East Carolina cut the advantage to 4-3 with a two-run third before Riles put the Pirates in front, 6-4, with a two-run homer to right in the fourth.
Charleston would strike back for one run in the home half, halving the margin to 6-5 after Richter drove in Roper with a single to center. The Pirates answered with a three-run seventh, pushing the advantage to 9-5 following an RBI double by Tyler.
After the Cougars countered with a run-scoring single by Roper in the home half, ECU plated three runs in the eighth to stretch the lead to 12-6 on Brickhouse's two-run shot to right. The Cougars would cap the night's scoring with an RBI single from Dixon in the ninth before the Pirates forced a double play to end the threat.
Charleston will wrap up the two-game set with the Pirates on Wednesday at 2:30 pm at Patriots Point. Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) will take the ball for the Cougars opposite ECU junior Evan Voliva.
