The College jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with one run in the first and three in the second, highlighted by RBI doubles from Dixon and Richter in the second frame. East Carolina cut the advantage to 4-3 with a two-run third before Riles put the Pirates in front, 6-4, with a two-run homer to right in the fourth.

Charleston would strike back for one run in the home half, halving the margin to 6-5 after Richter drove in Roper with a single to center. The Pirates answered with a three-run seventh, pushing the advantage to 9-5 following an RBI double by Tyler.

After the Cougars countered with a run-scoring single by Roper in the home half, ECU plated three runs in the eighth to stretch the lead to 12-6 on Brickhouse's two-run shot to right. The Cougars would cap the night's scoring with an RBI single from Dixon in the ninth before the Pirates forced a double play to end the threat.

Charleston will wrap up the two-game set with the Pirates on Wednesday at 2:30 pm at Patriots Point. Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) will take the ball for the Cougars opposite ECU junior Evan Voliva.
