CofC Season Ends with CAA Tournament Loss to UNCW

Harrisonburg, Va. – Kelly Sinclair hit a grand slam as part of a five-run fourth that cut a 6-0 deficit down to one run, but the College of Charleston could not complete the comeback in a 10-7 loss to UNCW in an elimination game at Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

The Cougars (33-23) trailed 10-5 entering the bottom of the seventh before Sinclair tripled and scored on a wild pitch, and Sara Garcia hit her third home run of the season. But Seahawk pitcher Sarah Davis set down the final two batters to put an end to CofC's season.

UNCW scored five times in the second including a three-run triple by Rachel Willis and added another in the fourth when Willis produced a fourth RBI with a ground out. But CofC struck back in its half of the inning after Davis retired the first two Cougars.

Kashmir Huckaby got the rally started with a double followed by a walk to Dana Horgan and an infield single by Yari Felix that loaded the bases. Taylor DuPree followed with a walk to put the Cougars on the board, and Sinclair launched a drive that cleared the fence in left for her first homer of the season.

The round tripper was the fourth of Sinclair's two-year career with two coming in the CAA Tournament. The sophomore shortstop also went deep against Delaware in last year's postseason event. Her triple in the seventh was also her first of 2017 in that category.

The Seahawks (33-17-1) quickly answered with two runs in the fifth when Anna Hessenthaler doubled and stole home, and Nella Chamblee added an RBI single to make it 8-5. UNCW added two insurance runs in the seventh before the Cougars had one last comeback attempt in the bottom of the frame.

Felix finished with two hits, and Jordin Jones joined Huckaby with a double. DuPree had a single in the third and finished the year with 74 hits, the third most in school history.
