HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. --- Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) put down 15 kills,
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) posted a double-double, and
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) totaled 25 digs to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Hofstra in both teams' Colonial Athletic Association opener on Friday evening.
College of Charleston (12-3, 1-0 CAA) won the match by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, and 25-17, while totaling 55 kills, 64 digs, seven blocks, seven service aces, and attacking at a .282 clip. Hofstra (8-7, 0-1 CAA) recorded 54 kills, 61 digs, seven blocks, and a .262 hitting percentage.
Rachel paced the Cougars' attack with 15 kills and a .292 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs.
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) and
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) added 13 and 12 kills, respectively, as Madison also tallied eight digs and four blocks.
Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) posted a match-high six blocks to go along with five kills, while
Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) chipped in seven kills. Beckman accounted for her fifth double-double of the season with 43 assists and 10 digs, as Rhodes recorded 25 digs.
Laura Masciullo led the way for Hofstra with a match-high 27 kills, as Emma Price posted 10 kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Luis Sydlik dished out a contest-best 44 assists, while Caylie Denham recorded a match-high 26 digs. Ivania Ortiz and Nanishka Perez tallied 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Cougars will return to the court on Sunday when they continue their road swing in Boston, Mass. against Northeastern in CAA play. First serve is slated for 1 pm.
