CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Elon on Saturday evening in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at Patriots Point Soccer Complex.
Both teams struggled to gain a foot-hold in the game early,
Temi Adesodun proving his worth in the Charleston defense, easing the Elon forward off the ball in the 22
nd minute as they looked to go through one-on-one.
In the 39
th minute,
Joao Mauricio de Souza whipped a free-kick into the box from the left channel with the ball just evading the head of
Tucker Heffron.
Minutes later Charleston had their first opportunity at goal with good work by
Victor Oladipo down the right wing. Oladipo beat his marker and found
Cornell Holland who in turn layed the ball for Heffron but his effort flew over.
Just a minute into the second half the Phoenix took the lead. A smooth counter-attack finished from four-yards out by Inigo Bronte.
Bronte grabbed his second in the 68
th minute through a large slice of luck. A deep cross from the left wing struck the back of a Charleston defender with Bronte tucking away from five-yards to give Elon a 2-0 lead.
The Phoenix saw the final minutes out to record their first Colonial Athletic Association victory of the season with Charleston moving to 3-8-2 on the year, 0-4-1 in the CAA.
