CHARLESTON, S.C. – Riding a two-game unbeaten streak, the College of Charleston men's soccer team look to make a late Colonial Athletic Association Championship push with back-to-back road games beginning with a Saturday night matchup at Hofstra. The 6 p.m. kickoff in Hempstead, N.Y., is a must-win game for the Cougars who are currently on four CAA points with two conference matches remaining.
Scouting Hofstra
The Pride, currently at third position in the CAA standings, have a 4-2-1 conference record and have qualified for postseason play after picking up wins over Drexel, William & Mary, Delaware and Elon. The two conference losses have come against the leaders James Madison and Northeastern while the Pride drew 0-0 with nationally ranked UNCW.
Series History
This will be the sixth meeting in history between the programs with Hofstra holding a one game advantage over the Cougars who trail 1-2-2 overall. The lone victory for Charleston came in 2015, a 1-0 victory at Patriots Point, while the last win for Hofstra came in 2016 with a 4-0 win in Hempstead.
Last Meeting with the Pride
Last season the teams battled through 110 minutes of action to a 0-0 draw. Charleston held a 14-4 shot advantage over the Pride but couldn't find a way through with Eli Dent coming closest with a shot that eventually found the crossbar. Kevin Shields grabbed his third clean sheet of the season in goal, making only one save over the course of the game.
Quotable – Head Coach Ralph Lundy
"Saturday's game at Hofstra is so important. We must win to stay in the race for the conference tournament… Our last two games have been very positive with excellent play and we must continue that quality to pick up the win at Hofstra."
