Amani Dunston (Agoura, Calif.) registered her first career double-double, and
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) finished with a match-high 12 kills as the No. 15 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll) College of Charleston volleyball team fell to Northeastern in straight sets on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Northeastern (11-8, 4-2 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-18 to pull into a three-way tie for third in CAA standings alongside College of Charleston (13-7, 4-2 CAA) and Hofstra (14-6, 4-2 CAA). The Huskies limited the Cougars to 35 kills, 63 digs, two blocks, and a .122 hitting percentage. Northeastern finished with 41 kills, 72 digs, 10 blocks, and a .189 attacking clip.
Madison paced the Cougars with 12 kills and a .375 hitting percentage, as Dunston accumulated 23 assists and 12 digs to account for her first collegiate double-double.
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 12 digs;
Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) and
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) entered the match in the third set, and dished out seven assists to move into third on the program's all-time assists list.
Athena Ardila led the way for Northeastern with 11 kills and three blocks. Hannah Boyd posted nine kills, while Kaylyn Winkler and Natalie Shollin each added seven smashes. Gabrielle Eyl paced the defense with a match-high 30 digs, as Samantha Shupe and Claire Lund accounted for 34 assists and 17 digs, respectively. Shupe and Shollin each recorded five blocks.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday, October 12 in Harrisonburg, Va. for a conference matchup with James Madison. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
