BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 65-66 on the road at Campbell with a last second buzzer beater winning it for the Camels.
Tyler Collins led the Cougars offense with 15 points,
Deja Ford adding 12 and
Darien Huff grabbing 11.
Arynn Eady got the game's first points with a jumper in the paint, a Collins three and
Baileigh Larson jumper forcing an early Campbell timeout.
As the first quarter came to close
Madison Taylor grabbed the first of her four points with a jumper, a Ford 3 pointer pushing the Charleston lead to 10 after the opening period.
Another 3 by Ford early in the second and an Eady layup increased the lead to 15, Campbell staying in the game and knocking down two free throws as the half ended to make the score 37-27.
Both teams struggled to find a basket early in the third quarter, Charleston holding a 40-31 lead at the media timeout after holding the Camels to 0-9 from the field.
From there the Campbell offense surged to level the game midway through the fourth, a three-pointer giving them their first lead of the game with three minutes remaining.
As the game entered the final minute and Campbell holding a five-point lead, a
Bri Sullivan jumper cut the lead to three, Collins knocking down a three to level the game with 30 seconds left.
Campbell took a one-point lead into the final seconds, Charleston drawing up the perfect play for Eady, eight points and six boards, to be fouled under the basket and knock down both free throws to put The College on top 65-64.
Campbell called a timeout, inbounded under the basket with the layup rolling in just before the buzzer to give them a dramatic 66-65 victory.
Charleston moves to 2-1 on the season and now look to a road matchup on Sunday at Wofford. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. with the game broadcast live on ESPN+.
