Charleston Hit Triple Digits in Exhibition Victory Over Southern Wesleyan

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior guard Darien Huff and freshman guard Latrice Perkins combined for 35 points as the College of Charleston women's basketball team took down Southern Wesleyan 100-64 in its exhibition matchup at TD Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Huff led all scorers with 18, 16 of those coming in the second half, with Perkins going nearly perfect from the field by adding 17 on 7-8 shooting. The Cougars defense forced 23 turnovers, limited the Warriors to under 30% shooting through the first half.

Arynn Eady got Charleston rolling early with a rebound and putback with freshman Tyler Collins leading the Cougars at the first timeout with seven points. A Perkins fast-break layup pushed the lead to 19-6 with a Lexi Maddox basket pushing it to 21.

Perkins hit her only three of the game early in the second, combining with Collins for 33 of Charleston's points at the half.

Huff took over in the third by scoring 11 of her 18 points, the highlight a dagger three in front of the Charleston bench.

In the fourth, Dee Heath grabbed one of her three steals for the fast-break bucket, the very next possession stealing the ball again and assisting Perkins to force a Warriors timeout.

Cailin Dorsey rounded out the scoring late in the fourth with a three from the top of the arc, lifting the Cougars to 100 points to confirm the victory.

Charleston now look to the 2018-19 season opener on Wednesday night against NCAA Division II North Greenville. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. inside TD Arena with tickets set at $6 for adults and $3 for youth aged 18 and under.

Quotable – Head coach Candice M. Jackson
"Very proud of our effort…. Very proud of the collective hustle from the team and just the way we worked together, we had 26 assists to [unofficially] open the season, I liked the way we shared the ball and moved the ball. So overall, good start, I think we have some things we have to work on defensively that we need to tighten up, but very, very, proud of the effort they put in over the game."
